![]() Both Android and Chrome OS are based on Linux, but a Chromebook running on an 圆4 AMD or Intel chip will have a lot easier time running Windows games than an Android phone (most of which use ARM-based processors). Especially since a lot of Chromebooks are running on x86/圆4 chipsets. It's similar, and some Android apps will run on it, but it's not exactly the same. What do you think? Am I crazy to assume that new gaming hardware will be put out to show off Steam on a Chromebook? Do you think Valve will play it safe this time and use existing gaming peripherals in product images and other marketing? Do you agree with me and think there's at least a chance that a Steam Controller 2 is part of this project?Ĭhrome OS isn't Android. At the very least, it's exciting to think that Steam Input may become the standard for gaming on Chrome OS.Ī lot of projects have been delayed by the pandemic, and it's possible that the unexpected success of Half-Life: Alyx and a suddenly-not-dead VR market changed Valve's schedule for Steam on Chrome OS, and/or pushed back hardware production that would have originally been paired with it, but I am none-the-less intrigued at the thought of the hardware that will end up paired with the project. It would make sense for Valve to pair new hardware with new software, especially since there isn't a standard Chrome OS controller. The Steam Controller was originally released alongside Steam OS, Steam boxes, and the Steam Link. ![]() (I'm just hoping they don't push the Stadia controller as the standard, because that thing is terrible.)īUT. This is wild speculation on my part, and it could just as easily be that they'll partner with GameSir or some other controller manufacturer to make more conventional controllers, like Microsoft partnered with 8-Bitdo, or maybe Valve will partner with Gamepad Digital to make a GPD Chromebook. If Valve is indeed partnering with Google to make this happen, it wouldn't surprise me if there were some Steam branded, or otherwise gaming-forward, Chromebooks put out, and it occurred to me that a new version of the Steam Controller would pair very nicely with one of those. There is this article that says Steam on Chrome is coming mid-2021. There's been very little news in the time since, but 2020 kinda. It's been a little over a year now since news of Steam on Chrome OS made the rounds. r/SteamDeck /r/SteamInput /r/GyroGaming /r/SteamControllerMods /r/SteamControllerMusic /r/ControllerSupporters /r/Steam /r/Steam_Link /r/SteamBox /r/SteamHardware /r/SteamOS /r/Valve Filters (subreddit theme must be enabled) Discussion / Configuration: Off News / Meta: Off Support: Off Discussion / Configuration: Off News / Meta: Off Support: On Discussion / Configuration: Off News / Meta: On Support: Off Discussion / Configuration: Off News / Meta: On Support: On Discussion / Configuration: On News / Meta: Off Support: Off Discussion / Configuration: On News / Meta: Off Support: On Discussion / Configuration: On News / Meta: On Support: Off Discussion / Configuration: On News / Meta: On Support: On Meta - Posts regarding the subreddit itself.
